Following Christ Or Carrying Christ

Many people have asked us over the years, “How do you guys walk the way you do?” This is in reference to our traveling full time without a home. Our response is, “How do we not?” We weren’t trying to be funny here, but there was an understanding gap. We realized though, that as we share our journey on facebook, our websites and with our friends, that perhaps there is something missing. As I was awake in the early morning, I heard the Lord talking to me about this subject. So, I hope this helps to bring some understanding to the question. FOLLOWING CHRIST OR CARRYING CHRIST…

As the discussion continued this morning, He started talking to me about the crowds of people who followed Him while He walked the earth. There were many who followed Him, but only a few who became disciples and those He could call His friends.

With the early apostles in the book of Acts, there were those who followed the apostles and there were those who became carriers of the Holy Spirit, thus becoming Children of God. So we see this difference before and after His death, which was a huge difference.

In Acts 19, when Paul was doing many miracles, healing people and casting out evil spirits, a group of followers tried to do the same thing. The key to understanding this part is that they were followers and not carriers.

Acts 19:13-18Then some of the traveling Jewish exorcists (men who adjure evil spirits) also undertook to call the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, I solemnly implore and charge you by the Jesus Whom Paul preaches! 14 Seven sons of a certain Jewish chief priest named Sceva were doing this. 15 But [one] evil spirit retorted, Jesus I know, and Paul I know about, but who are you? 16 Then the man in whom the evil spirit dwelt leaped upon them, mastering two of them, and was so violent against them that they dashed out of that house [in fear], stripped naked and wounded. 17 This became known to all who lived in Ephesus, both Jews and Greeks, and alarm and terror fell upon them all; and the name of the Lord Jesus was extolled and magnified. 18 Many also of those who were now believers came making full confession and thoroughly exposing their [former deceptive and evil] practices.”AMP

In verse 18, we can see a key to the difference between the followers and the carriers. The key is confession, repentance, (embracing the cross), forgiveness, applying the Blood of Jesus, receiving the power of the Holy Spirit, receiving His righteousness through faith (believing) like Abraham and then walking as a Child of God, Child of the King of Kings.

There are many followers in our world, who pray for, demand, ask and beg the Lord to do things in their life. They see others, who are the carriers, walking in ways they want to walk. In fact, I believe this is how some people become Atheists. They don’t understand this difference and start to blame God for everything or take the blows themselves because they must be too bad for God to ever love them. Eventually, perhaps the only logical solution in their thinking is that maybe God doesn’t exist. The more they meditate on this, the more their hearts are hardened and they believe it as truth. The false teachings by so-called ministers of prosperity, blessings, favor, love and peace, which is devoid of the cross is one of the main reasons for this. Man looks at blessings and success far differently than the Lord. He has told us, and Nicodemus that no one can truly understand the things of the Kingdom without being born again, yet many try. Their preaching is to draw a crowd and to build their own kingdom of power and wealth, and not His.

John 3:3, “Jesus answered him, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, that unless a person is born again (anew, from above), he cannot ever see (know, be acquainted with, and experience) the kingdom of God.“AMP

The entrance to the Kingdom of the Lord starts at the cross. It’s where it did also with Jesus. There is no other way in. Jesus is the door and all who want in must come in through Him. Like Him, we must bow our knees before the cross, repent of our former life of sin, ask His forgiveness, and let His blood fully cover us. We must invite Him into our heart and let Him take the wheel of our life. We give up our rights to let Him and the Holy Spirit rule and reign in us. Thus, we become His children as we are born again by the Spirit. This is something that is tangible. We can feel the change and others can see it. It’s like a light starts shining in our eyes and our spirit is alive. According to Psalm 139:14-18, we have a wonderful destiny planned before the foundations of the earth, written on a scroll in heaven for us to see and to experience, victoriously. This is the beginning of the journey to finding and experiencing everything He has for us, but it begins at the cross.

One of the greatest things that happens at this point is that one no longer is a follower trying to find out more about this Jesus by having to listen to others. Now, we can know from experience and walk with Him personally, 24/7. It’s like being a baby all over again as we get to learn His ways, and read His word in the Bible. Personally, I like the Amplified Bible version because it is so rich in meaning.

1 John 2:27, “I write this to you with reference to those who would deceive you [seduce and lead you astray]. 27 But as for you, the anointing (the sacred appointment, the unction) which you received from Him abides [permanently] in you; [so] then you have no need that anyone should instruct you. But just as His anointing teaches you concerning everything and is true and is no falsehood, so you must abide in (live in, never depart from) Him [being rooted in Him, knit to Him], just as [His anointing] has taught you [to do]. 28 And now, little children, abide (live, remain permanently) in Him, so that when He is made visible, we may have and enjoy perfect confidence (boldness, assurance) and not be ashamed and shrink from Him at His coming.”AMP

Notice that John was writing this to new believers as he calls us “little children” in verse 28. This instruction isn’t only to mature Christians, rather it is to new believers to be on the watch. There are ministers and others out there who are wolves in sheep’s clothing. There are many more, though, who are honest and carriers. Here John is telling us to listen to the Holy Spirit as He leads us. We might fall and make mistakes along the way, but so does a toddler as he is learning to walk. We simply repent, ask for forgiveness, receive it, apply the Blood, get up and continue the journey, just like the toddler. We can even cry for a while if we must. He understands. We are learning the ways of the Spirit through faith, because we can’t always see what He is saying. Sometimes we get glimpses, visions, and dreams. The spirit realm is beyond the natural, but it interacts with it.

I wish I could say a lot more here, but for the sake of the length of this post, I will wrap it up. I plan to do some videos on these subjects soon and perhaps do some teachings around the concerts we do as we travel.

Janiece and I are carriers of Christ. We are totally committed to Him. Does this mean we are perfect? Far from it. It is His part to get us to where we need to be. If we allow Him, He will finish what He starts with us. This is why we can totally overcome fear of failure and walk confidently in faith every step of the way. If others come around us that try to get us off of this path, we can simply walk away. He will lead us to mentors who can help us along the way. We will know them by His Spirit and by the way of His peace. He doesn’t operate in chaos and judgement. His way is love, peace and joy.

I hope this helps you understand the difference in those who walk in the blessings, and those who only see them from a distance. If you’d like to be a part of what we are doing now, and/or would like us to come to your community, please go to my facebook page and message me or to the contact page on this site or the contact page of my professional website at Blessings and His favor on your journey in Him.

To also help you along in this journey, I suggest you go to Robert Henderson’s website. He has a lot of good info and he travels the world sharing a simple, yet deep message about being free and walking in the authority we are given in Jesus. Perhaps he will visit your city.

Janiece and I travel and minister to individuals and groups as doors open for us to go. We are starting a new thing this year. We will be going to communities, as the Lord leads, and booking hotel meeting rooms to do concerts. We will invite those from the hotel as well as the community. We will connect to other churches and organizations in those communities to help those who desperately need help, and who, perhaps won't come into a church building. We share His love to those who haven’t heard of their Father’s love for them and also minister in song. We’ve both been through a lot and have been healed and restored and that we have to pass on to others. We can speak through truth and experience because we’ve been there. If you would like to book us for a concert, event, speaking and/or ministry meeting, please use our CONTACT page. We hope we have helped to encourage you to go on and find the wonderful destiny God has planned for you. Psalm 139. Fly higher…
