Starting On The Wrong Foot, Ending On The Right

Did you get started off in life on the wrong foot or perhaps started good and hit a huge bump in the road and fell hard? Perhaps your past is riddled with things so bad you can’t seem to get past the haunting memories and leave it all behind. How does one forgive oneself for the bad things they’ve done? How could the Lord forgive me? Look at my mess! I want to live a life of freedom and love, but day after day I have these haunting memories. Can someone help me? Let’s take a look at Paul… STARTING ON THE WRONG FOOT, ENDING ON THE RIGHT!

Paul was in the so-called church of his time. He was circumcised, of the tribe of Benjamin, etc. He studied hard to be approved. He obeyed the law. He was very zealous to see that others kept the commands of the law, even to seeing those who disobeyed stoned to death. It was their way and it was the law. Philippians 3

We do know in Acts 7:54-60, Paul is standing over and approving of the stoning of Stephen. He could’ve heard Stephen calling out that he sees heaven open as he is standing before the Sanhedrin. After they drag him outside of the city and are stoning him, he cries out for Jesus to receive his spirit. He also asks Him to forgive everyone there for what they were doing to him. Did this event touch Paul at all?

According to chronological accounts, it seems that Paul was learning from the Pharisees while Jesus was teaching His disciples. One could say that Paul was part of those who missed the Messiah in His coming, when Jesus wept over Jerusalem. Luke 13:31-35 Why didn’t Jesus choose Paul to be one of His disciples then? Would He have listened to Jesus? Was he ever at one of Jesus’ teachings/healings? Did he know about Jesus and like the other religious crowds, reject Him too?

It is interesting that when Jesus meets him on the road to Damascus and is knocked to the ground by a blinding light, the first thing he says after the Lord talks to Him is, “Who are you, Lord?” Then the Lord says, “I am Jesus, Whom YOU are PERSECUTING.” Wow! What a moment in time. Here is this man who thinks he is doing the Lord’s will and all of a sudden he is facing his sins. He is persecuting the very one, the Lord, Who he thought he was serving. Wow! Talk about being face-to-face with knowing it was you who was breaking the Lord’s commands and murdering others, leaving their families in grief. How does one get through this? How can Paul ever forgive himself? He does!

You see, Paul recognized that Jesus’ blood was good enough to forgive him and cleanse him of all his sin and unrighteousness. He knew the law and he knew that Jesus fulfilled every bit of the law that we all might be cleansed and set free of the law of sin and death. He embraced it and then he walked in such a freedom that he would continue to write about it over and over again so that others might be free too. The biggest obstacle to most Christian’s walk is the inability for them to forgive themselves and to believe that the Lord could forgive them for what they did. It is a prerequisite for truly receiving the fullness of His love in our hearts. This is why so many Christians don’t walk in true freedom and love. How can one love others if they don’t even love themselves? One can only give out what they have inside to give. If we only have a small measure of His love in our hearts then that is all we can give, but what if we can get an overflowing, abundance of His love into our hearts. Can you imagine? Well, our hearts can only hold so much. If they are filled up with bitterness, unforgiveness, envy, jealousy and all of that stuff, where is there room for His love to be? We must cleanse those areas so that we can become full of His love.

The Lord looks at the heart. One could say that Paul had a heart for the Lord in some way similar to David. When Paul was confronted with his sin, He embraced the Lord, corrected that which needed to be corrected and got on the right path.

So now, let’s look at our lives. Where do we fit into this? How bad is it really? Forgiveness is just a breath away. Repentance is a choice. Forgiveness is a choice. They are not based on emotion at all, rather a choice to do it. Then grace and mercy kick in and help us to receive it.

Whatever you have done up to this point, simply make a choice to turn away from it, repent, and ask His forgiveness for it all. He will and you will feel a wonderful cleansing come over your whole being and a new freedom. That’s all it takes. If you don’t know Him at all, ask Him to be your Lord and Savior and to come into your heart and begin to make you whole. It is a process and a journey, but one that is so incredible. If you have done this, I stand with you in declaring your sins forgiven. I declare that the Holy Spirit is giving you new life and filling you with His goodness. He is your new friend. Get to know him. Read His word, the bible. Start the adventure and see where He leads you.

I leave you with this. This is not saying we don’t need others around us to help us or to mentor us because we do and the Lord sends us some wonderful people to help us. It does say, that He will guide us into all the truth if that is what we are seeking. Some would try to distract us for their own purposes, but stay true to His leading in your heart and you will be able to see the truth.

1 John 2:26, 27, “I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray. 27 As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him.

Blessings, peace, love, grace and mercy to you,

Joseph James

Janiece and I travel and minister to individuals and groups as doors open for us to go. We are starting a new thing this year. We will be going to communities, as the Lord leads, and booking hotel meeting rooms to do concerts. We will invite those from the hotel as well as the community. We will connect to other churches and organizations in those communities to help those who desperately need help, and who, perhaps won't come into a church building. We share His love to those who haven’t heard of their Father’s love for them and also minister in song. We’ve both been through a lot and have been healed and restored and that we have to pass on to others. We can speak through truth and experience because we’ve been there. If you would like to book us for a concert, event, speaking and/or ministry meeting, please use our CONTACT page. We hope we have helped to encourage you to go on and find the wonderful destiny God has planned for you. Psalm 139. Fly higher…
