Are We Equipped For The Battle

As Janiece and I were talking this morning over breakfast, I saw a vision of how to relate to others the serious differences in some church circles/fellowships. There are so many factions/divisions in the Body of Christ to say the least, but depending on who you talk to, they insist they are right and others are wrong. Many don’t even talk to one another and if the leaders of these groups get together to pray for one another, it seems to be a miracle but it should be the norm. So, I’ve been trying to find a way to share an illustration that would somehow show the importance of what these differences can do to believers at certain places in their journey as well as the new, born-again believer. ARE WE EQUIPPED FOR THE BATTLE?

I think that Ephesians 6:10-18 describes the battle arena very well and Revelation 2 & 3 take it even further in Jesus’ commands to the seven churches. Hebrews tells us that some things are ELEMENTARY (Milk) and other things are for the MATURE (Solid food). Consider the following:

Hebrews 5:11-14, “ Concerning this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull and sluggish in [your spiritual] hearing and disinclined to listen. 12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers [because of the time you have had to learn these truths], you actually need someone to teach you again the elementary principles of God’s word [from the beginning], and you have come to be continually in need of milk, not solid food. 13 For everyone who lives on milk is [doctrinally inexperienced and] unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a spiritual infant. 14 But solid food is for the [spiritually] mature, whose senses are trained by practice to distinguish between what is morally good and what is evil.“AMP

I’ve known this scripture for a long time, but didn’t connect it to the battlefield until the Lord showed me this morning. I’ve heard some preachers say they want to stay away from the controversial teachings of the Bible, namely the power of the Holy Spirit and some other instructions where others have a tendency to go overboard. Some say that certain things in the Bible have gone away. Having experienced so much of the fullness of the scriptures, I get a bit angry by these uniformed/perhaps ignorant leaders. Just because a few go to the extreme, doesn’t give us a license to rewrite scripture and/or get to pick and choose what we will or will not obey. “Here Lord, I’ll take this for my life and I refuse that because so and so over there has gone off the deep end.” Yeah, just see how far you get with that one. However, this morning, I saw a vivid picture of why this is so deadly and why Father hates it so much.

I saw a battlefield with many Christian soldiers on it and enemy soldiers coming at them. There were different groups of Christian soldiers on the field.

Group 1: These Christians were dressed in full armor, knew their orders, knew their authority and defeated every single enemy soldier that came against them and those they were protecting.

Group 2: These were other soldiers who were dressed but were missing vital parts of their armor and these were the places the enemy was exploiting, picking them off, one by one. They were trying to carry out their orders and were trying desperately hard to win, but they didn’t have everything they needed.

Group 3: This group didn’t resemble soldiers at all. They weren’t dressed correctly, had no armor, didn’t even know their authority and they were just fair game for the enemy. They shouldn’t have been on the battlefield at all, or if so, they should have been close to some of those in Group 1. Some didn’t even know they were on a battlefield and were wondering why they were getting hit. They didn’t have a chance and were defeated before they even got started.

The writer of Hebrews tells us what these ELEMENTARY principles are in the next chapter, but so much of the Church still argues about what these are and how you do them. These are the basics and if the believer doesn’t even understand these, he/she cannot walk on their own, let alone even attempt to stand against the enemy. This is how it gets serious very fast. It is why so many Christians are not overcomers, but rather overcome by everything that comes against them. You see, we need to study the Bible for ourselves and ask the Holy Spirit to help us to understand it. We need to also find mentors who not only know the truth but walk in it. To get into His Kingdom it is rather simple. Repent for our sins, ask the Lord to forgive us and ask Him to save us, inviting Him into our heart to begin to change us. This changes our life from the inside out and puts us on the right track. The next thing is continuing the journey through getting to know Him more and more, He is a person, and to study His Word. We are born again, but are just like a new-born baby until we can learn how to how to walk, then run and then fight. It doesn’t happen overnight but we can get there if we don’t stop.

We must realize that the Lord started this journey with us and He will complete it if we allow Him to do so. He is the Author and the Finisher of our Faith. The question is, “Do we want to be fully equipped for the battle?” If so, where and who we fellowship with makes a big difference to us. Training is hard and difficult and so we need to make sure we have those around us who want to help us find our path and destiny and not just want us to help them build their own little Kingdom. How can we know and find the right people? Simply ask the Lord and let Him lead us. Some people will only be around us for a short time to help us in certain areas while others may be around for a long time. A diamond has many facets to it, just like the Gospel. When we hold up a diamond to the light, we want to turn it around so we can see all of its beauty. We want the same with the Kingdom. Each of us has a certain area where we excel and are gifted, but if that is all we ever focus on, our lives can become one sided. If one spends all his/her time with a prophet for instance, we won’t be able to glean from the other aspects of the Kingdom. Where is the teacher, the apostle, the evangelist, pastor and all the others? Each protrays a different facet of the Kingdom.

Here is a verse that brought me a whole lot of comfort in my early walk.

1 John 2:27, “These things I have written to you with reference to those who are trying to deceive you [seducing you and leading you away from the truth and sound doctrine]. 27 As for you, the anointing [the special gift, the preparation] which you received from Him remains [permanently] in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you. But just as His anointing teaches you [giving you insight through the presence of the Holy Spirit] about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as His anointing has taught you, you must remain in Him [being rooted in Him, knit to Him].“AMP

Find people who are more interested in helping you find your place in His Kingdom. They need to know their authority in Him. They need to understand repentance, grace, mercy, justice, forgiveness, love, water baptism, the baptism of the Holy Spirit, deliverance, how to operate in the courts of heaven, among other things. They need to know who Jesus is, the Holy Spirit and Father. We are on a journey in our spiritual life just as in our physical one. Psalm 139:15-17 tells us that we have a book/scroll in heaven where Father has written all the days of our lives. He wrote down the plan and has given us everything we need to walk it out. It is our job to get to know Him so that He can show us what is there and show us how to access the storehouse He has for us. He has provided everything for us to fulfill the destiny He has for us, but He hasn’t provided for the journey of our own choosing. There is a difference. He has also prepared others to help us along the way. If we listen to Him and follow Him, He’ll show us where they are along our journey. Don’t settle for second best. Go for your destiny, the reason you are here. Get ready for the adventure of a lifetime. Go for what is yours! Fly higher!

If you need help and would like to be a part, just write us. We are in Atlanta, GA for the time being, but we are connected via the web, namely facebook. We can connect for prayer and whatever else the Lord has. Let us know.

Janiece and I travel and minister to individuals and groups as doors open for us to go. We are starting a new thing this year. We will be going to communities, as the Lord leads, and booking hotel meeting rooms to do concerts. We will invite those from the hotel as well as the community. We will connect to other churches and organizations in those communities to help those who desperately need help, and who, perhaps won't come into a church building. We share His love to those who haven’t heard of their Father’s love for them and also minister in song. We’ve both been through a lot and have been healed and restored and that we have to pass on to others. We can speak through truth and experience because we’ve been there. If you would like to book us for a concert, event, speaking and/or ministry meeting, please use our CONTACT page. We hope we have helped to encourage you to go on and find the wonderful destiny God has planned for you. Psalm 139. Fly higher…
