Which Jesus Do Others See

Which Jesus do people see in us? Is it the real Jesus of the Gospels of Mathew, Mark, Luke and John or is it a different Jesus? This thought spun around in my head early this morning and has been with me all day long. If you believe in the Lord, proclaim that you are His, how would others describe Him by what they see in you? What if you were the only representation of Jesus they ever get to see? Interesting question but it is also a dangerous one. Many proclaim to be His, but it is evident their actions don’t show it. How does that affect the viewers walking down the street, in a restaurant and somewhere else out in public? What do they walk away with thinking about Jesus from that point of view. WHICH JESUS DO OTHERS SEE…

Here is a view of Jesus from the Gospels themselves. The woman who was caught in adultery, how did He respond to the religious leader’s cry that they were right to stone her to death? Jesus didn’t deny that was what the law stated, what He did say was, “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.” They all left and then He forgave her and told her to go and sin no more. It doesn’t even state that she asked for His forgiveness. FORGIVENESS! How much do we walk in it, especially when we are out in public? Obviously, we are all human and have our weaknesses and will mess up, but what do we do when we do mess up? Do we try to cover it up by denying it, or simply ask for forgiveness for the wrong?

Are we like the teachers of the law who put burdens on others that they cannot carry? You know, the dos and don’ts of religious rules and regulations that seem to have a form of godliness, but have absolutely none of the power of God behind it to actually change a person. Telling a sinner to change themselves by doing certain things, mind over matter is pure humanism, a work of the flesh and not the Spirit, and not freedom in the Spirit of God. It is the power of the Holy Spirit that gives us the victories over the things we cannot control. RELIGIOUS RULES! Again, who is this Jesus they are seeing through us? Is He able to show His love through us, or are we so angry inside at our own failures that we take it out on them?

Jesus said, “Love one another as I have loved you.” We’ve all heard the scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” How can we love others though if we can’t love ourselves? We have seen so many people try to love others, but they end up pushing them away and treating them harshly. Why is that? It is because they don’t love themselves. In fact, most of them actually hate themselves because of something from their past. They get caught in a whirlpool of hopelessness trying to do the right thing, but not having the ability. First we need to repent of hating ourselves, ask the Lord to forgive us and to fill us with His love. Then we are able to begin to love others as our self. The requirement to love others, is to first TRULY LOVE our self as He loves us. LOVE!

The doctrinal Jesus is seen in many different church groups. They have a list of things they’ve picked out of the Bible that they believe to be the truth. That can be a good thing unless they are also choosing which things they are not going to believe, sometimes by saying, “That went away years ago and is no longer valid.” DANGEROUS GROUND! Here is a short list of some of the more prominent groups around. Does Jesus look like the Presbyterian church? …the Methodist church …the Catholic church …the Baptist church …the Assembly of God, non-denomination, etc.? Then there are splits and segments of these groups too, who not only disagree with one another, but some won’t even speak to each other. Surely, that must be what Jesus looks like. I mean, they are God’s representation here on earth, right? I am not picking on the ones I mentioned as there are many more, but this is just an example. If you don’t believe me, just start looking into their history and how they function in our society. No one is perfect, but that’s not the point. Heading in the direction to become more and more like Him is the point.

Where am I, you might ask? I am on a journey to find out all of who He is. I have been in many different church groups over the years, some longer than others and I’ve added to my life the truths I’ve found from each. Paul, one of the greatest apostles said it this way, Pattern yourselves after me [follow my example], as I imitate and follow Christ (the Messiah).” I Corinthians 11:1 AMP. In the previous chapter, he is talking to them about how to walk, our freedoms, and giving them some guidelines. Not everyone is at the same place so when looking at others lives, see that which is truth and follow it. Take the good, make it a part of your life, leave the bad behind, and the questionable on a shelf until it is proven one way or the other. IMITATE!

Be an observer, a seeker of truth, look to see where it might be in any situation and you might find some revelations that others ignore. The truth doesn’t always come through a preacher, but rather through people walking the walk and sometimes from those who appear least likely to be following the Lord. Freedom in Christ is a never ending journey of new revelation. It is not new as it is all written in the Bible, but we have to see beyond the law to the Spirit of love. FREEDOM! Galatians 5:13-15, ‘You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. 14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” 15 If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.”‘ NIV

There are many great mentors and teachers out around us. If we ask, the Lord will help us find them. There are many well-meaning groups, but are centered more on their own doctrines than His love for all of His people. The Body of Christ is not about one segment or facet of the scriptures, rather, it should be a continual journey of adding one revelation upon another, walking out the truths He’s given, until we all come into the unity and accomplish the work He has for us individually and for our generation. I will not support building a man’s kingdom. I’ve done that for years and have wasted a lot of time in the process. There are so many all around us who are dying in depression and all kinds of things. We have the answer and the healing they are so desperately crying out for. Can we not hear the cries? Are we not willing to go beyond the safety of our four walls to reach them? HOPE! They don’t know how to get in or perhaps they are too afraid because of some things that happened at the last place they dared to check out.

The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers who are willing to go into these areas are very few. Which Jesus do they see in you? Is He the one that lived 2000+ years ago? Is He a mixture of Himself and some men’s doctrines? Only you are the one who truly knows. You know what’s in your heart, your desires and your ambitions. Who are you seeking? Who’s life are you building? Are the dreams you are following from your own ambitions or are they the ones He’s planned for you from eternity? Your Life! Your Choice! WHICH JESUS DO OTHERS SEE?

Janiece and I travel and minister to individuals and groups as doors open for us to go. We are starting a new thing this year. We will be going to communities, as the Lord leads, and booking hotel meeting rooms to do concerts. We will invite those from the hotel as well as the community. We will connect to other churches and organizations in those communities to help those who desperately need help, and who, perhaps won't come into a church building. We share His love to those who haven’t heard of their Father’s love for them and also minister in song. We’ve both been through a lot and have been healed and restored and that we have to pass on to others. We can speak through truth and experience because we’ve been there. If you would like to book us for a concert, event, speaking and/or ministry meeting, please use our CONTACT page. We hope we have helped to encourage you to go on and find the wonderful destiny God has planned for you. Psalm 139. Fly higher…
