The term Shock & Awe is a military doctrine based on the use of overwhelming power, dominant battlefield awareness, dominant maneuvers, and spectacular displays of force to paralyze an adversary’s perception of the battlefield and destroy its will to fight, according to Wikipedia. I believe there is a greater Shock & Awe and it is literally out of this world. It is coming soon to some and is years away from others. What is it? SHOCK & AWE!
In the books in Heaven, there is at least one book written about each of us, Psalm 139. It has all the special things written in it that Father has planned for us. In it, are listed our talents, our purpose, the things He has planned for us to do and more. There is a scripture that says, Proverbs 25:2, “It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings.” You get the feeling by reading His word that all of His love and joy are included in every written verse, but we have to search for it to find it. Zechariah 2:8 & Psalm 17:8 – We are the apple of His eye. Zephaniah 3:17, “He rejoices (joy), over us with singing.” Psalm 139:14 – We were fearfully and wonderfully made… Get the picture of how much He loves each of us!
Then there is this phrase that Jesus used and it blew my mind because I didn’t understand it for so long. “Many are called, but few are chosen.” Matthew 20:16.
“What do you mean, Lord? Does this mean You have favorites? I thought You were no respecter of people.” That used to bug me tremendously because I thought Father was being unfair. Then I understood. Interested?
Many also means plenteous in the Greek. So, plenteous, plenty are called, but only a few answer the call. How can one be chosen if they don’t answer the call and show up to be chosen.
Imagine a basketball team issuing a call to various potential players. They tell them where to meet so each player can try out and prove their skills, courage and character. Can you just imagine a player wandering in one day and walking up to the coach and asking him why he didn’t get chosen. The coach replies, “We called you, but you never showed up. How could we pick you to play?” Kind of ridiculous, huh? But that is what a lot of people expect. Another reason for not getting chosen is not wanting to adhere to the rules of the game and obey your coach.
You have to go beyond the call, show up, and prove yourself… He knocks at the door to each of our hearts, but we have to hear and open the door so that He can come in… He is the Coach. He knows the rules. He knows what we need to help us cross the finish line victoriously. Answer the door…
So, now let’s get a heavenly perspective on this scene of Shock & Awe. We know that everyone’s life here on earth ends at some point in time. The real shock is not in dying, it is in finding yourself standing before the Lord. Imagine Him placing His hand on your shoulder and telling you He wants to take you to a special place to show you some things. On the way, you are glimpsing a place you might have only thought about occasionally, but now you’re here and you have to face truth. Going through your mind right now are the many excuses you used while you were still on earth, but now they seem to be floating before you like an open scroll where everyone can read them. You know you can’t lie, so you hang your head in humility and shame.
The Lord takes you down what seems to be a long hallway before He stops at a room. After you enter in, the first thing you see is a beautiful scroll, handcrafted to the finest detail. Then you start reading the words of the scroll and see that they were written so perfectly. Each letter so finely penned like that of a great artist. Then as you continue on past the first words, you begin to understand Father’s true love for you. You see that all He wanted was the best for you, and that He had created everything you needed to walk the journey He had planned for you. Then your heart was grieved with pain as you realized that most of your life, you walked in the lies told to you by others and the devil about who you were. Your first thought is “let me have a second chance, I’ll do it right this time.” But there isn’t a second chance. It’s all over. Then you remember all of those times you heard that small still voice trying to get you to hear the truth, but you ignored it because of all the pain, bitterness and anger in your heart.
The Lord paints each sunrise and sunset specially for us to see. Each person sees something different because of viewpoint. The light rays reflect differently from different angles. He also has the birds singing to Him their heavenly songs and to us. I’ve had birds fly up next to me and just watch me and sing. He sends a gentle breeze through our hair as He lets us know He is touching us with His love ever so gently. Plus, there is more…
This is the real Shock & Awe. Don’t let that be your story. Do whatever it takes to find the truth about you and the Lord, and then grasp every bit of His amply supplied grace to walk your path in this life to victory, gaining the victor’s crown in eternity. SHOCK & AWE!
