What are open doors? Of course, you need an open door to get a lot of things accomplished in your life. If we are going to do any shopping, we need the doors of the store to be open so that we can go in and purchase what we need or want. We also need to have open doors in areas of business and employment. But did you know that each one of us are a door? Did you know that there are also doors in heaven? There are many kinds of doors, some are closed and some are open. How do they affect our lives? OPEN DOORS!
On Saturday morning, December 3, as I was in corporate prayer at Great Grace International Christian Center in San Antonio, Texas, I saw a vision. In it, I saw double doors. The interesting thing about these doors were that they were open. Following are two versions, Break In Clouds & Lightning, that are available as art prints & wallpapers on our websites. Just click on one of the images below for more information.
Sometimes the Lord
opens a door before us,
but the door to our own heart
remains closed and we can’t see it;
unforgiveness, unbelief, doubt,
fear, bitterness, greed, anger, sin,
selfishness, pride, envy, jealousy…
Other times, the doors to heaven
and the doors to our heart can be open,
but other doors can be closed in between;
religion, tradition, cultural beliefs,
leaders who won’t open the doors before them,
yet hold the keys in their hands,
His body not being interconnected…
Are we an open door to Him?
…to others? …even to our own destiny?
Our hearts are doors. They can be open as we receive others into our lives or closed as we push them away, including the Lord, Himself. Revelation 3:19, 20, “Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent. 20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” The Lord speaks of our hearts being a door. Through repentance we can open that door to Him and He can come in and fellowship with us. In saying this, He is letting us know that the door of Salvation in heaven is open to us. This is further illustrated in Song of Solomon 4:12, “You are a garden locked up, my sister, my bride; you are a spring enclosed, a sealed fountain.” This verse denotes that she has closed the door to her heart, yet a few verses later she calls on the north and south wind to blow and spread the fragrances of her love abroad. We can close our hearts off to others because of hurt, pain, trauma, etc. Song of Solomon 5:2-6, “I slept but my heart was awake. Listen! My beloved is knocking: ‘Open to me, my sister, my darling, my dove, my flawless one. My head is drenched with dew, my hair with the dampness of the night.’ 3 I have taken off my robe— must I put it on again? I have washed my feet— must I soil them again? 4 My beloved thrust his hand through the latch-opening; my heart began to pound for him. 5 I arose to open for my beloved, and my hands dripped with myrrh, my fingers with flowing myrrh, on the handles of the bolt. 6 I opened for my beloved, but my beloved had left; he was gone. My heart sank at his departure…”
There are doors in Heaven. Revelation 4:1, “After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.” There are doors of revelation opened to each of us in heaven as well as doors of opportunity. If we can see the door, we can enter and see and hear what He is wanting us to know. These doors are available to us as He opens them for us in a particular season and for a particular purpose. There are different doors for different purposes, doors of salvation, healing, revelation, into His courts, etc. These revelations can be the restoration of an understanding of scripture back to the Church that was lost in the dark ages. It can also be the plans for an invention, business plan, government strategy, revelation of the schemes of the enemy, etc.
There are corporate doors in His body, the Church. Jesus chastised the teachers of the law and the Pharisees in Matthew 23:13, “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the door of the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to.“ Jesus was letting us know there are doors that Christian leaders have the keys to open for the rest of the body in each generation. They are new revelations that further His Kingdom, but sometimes pride, jealousy and envy creep in and the leaders want the glory for themselves instead of giving it to the Lord. They build their own kingdoms and hinder His from advancing. We have seen this throughout the ages. Please see my post, “Christ Divided” for more on this topic.
In addition to this, each body part, each believer, is also a door to one another. We have the choice of whether we let someone get close to us or push them away. We have the choice whether to encourage someone and show them the way to salvation, healing, love, truth, peace, grace, mercy, etc. We can also introduce them to someone who needs their gift to maybe help in their business or ministry thereby being an answer to someones prayer. Maybe we are the door to someone who will eventually be a door back to us to get us to the place we are praying to go. If we shut the door to them, we shut the door to our own destiny.
Doors we need to open! Guard Our Lips – Psalm 141:3, “Set a guard over my mouth, LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips.” Our Hearts - Psalm 24:7, “Lift up your heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.” Wisdom – Proverbs 8:34, “Blessed are those who listen to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway.” Deliverance & Freedom – Isaiah 45:1, “This is what the LORD says to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I take hold of to subdue nations before him and to strip kings of their armor, to open doors before him so that gates will not be shut:” Most Holy Place – Ezekiel 41:23, “Both the main hall and the Most Holy Place had double doors.” Answers, Revelation – Matthew 7:7-8, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.“ Womb – Job 3:9, 10, “May its morning stars become dark; may it wait for daylight in vain and not see the first rays of dawn, 10 for it did not shut the doors of the womb on me to hide trouble from my eyes.” Entrance Into His Kingdom – Luke 13:24, “Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to.” Door of Faith – Acts 14:27, “On arriving there, they gathered the church together and reported all that God had done through them and how he had opened a door of faith to the Gentiles.” For Effective Work – 1 Corinthians 16:9, “…because a great door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many who oppose me.”
Doors we need to close! Sin – Genesis 4:7, “If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.” Adultery – Proverbs 5:8, “Keep to a path far from her, do not go near the door of her house,” Judgment – James 5:9, “Don’t grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door!”
Doors He closes! Missed Opportunities, Disobedience – Matthew 25:10-13, “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut. 11 Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’ 12 But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’ 13 Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.“
Doors He opens! Revelation 3:8, “I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.”
I have been meditating on the doors of the Kingdom for a while now and there are many more than this. Please read my previous post, “Thru Kingdom Doors” that I wrote on January 25, 2011. These doors are fascinating and the revelation has given me more of an understanding of the Kingdom and how we can live a more victorious life. OPEN DOORS!
