The Love of God

What is God’s love like? How big is it? How far will He go to bring us to Himself? Does He really care? How can I know for sure? People talk about His love, but I want to know it is for real? Do any of these questions touch your heart? The Love of God!
What are the attributes of love? Here are some listed in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8, Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.
This is a very interesting definition of love. I did not know this growing up. I always heard that love is about feelings, but over the years the Lord has shown me a better way. Love is about choices. It is these choices that can change a person’s life for the best. The Lord doesn’t act on His feelings. He made the choice to love us and to send His Son to die for us. He could have turned His back on His rebellious creation, but He didn’t. His tears fall like rain for those who turn and walk away from Him, and yet, in an instant He would take them deep into His loving arms if they would just turn back to Him.
The Lord is perfect. He doesn’t love us like a human being would, He simply loves us. His love also includes correction. It wouldn’t be love if it didn’t. Someone who loves their child will discipline them. This is how we all learn boundaries that will save our lives.
After my separation from my second wife, I was all alone. Here I was a Christian, a believer and now I was walking down the road of separation to divorce. I was devastated. I felt all alone. There were meaningful people around me but they couldn’t get to where I was. Some quoted scripture to try to help me, but I already knew the scripture and it didn’t help. Others were on the outside looking in. They tried to help, but they had never been here before and their words just fell to the ground. During this time, there was only One who could help me and He did. I could feel His love all around me as He wrapped me in His loving arms. I knew that no matter what happened, I was safe and secure. If He could love me now, at the bottom of failure, I was encouraged. This is reality. This is real love. Some of my friends left me during this time, but He didn’t.
The Lord is always with us, even when we feel alone. His angels are around us too. He gives us the right to choose what we are going to do with our lives, but He hopes we will turn to Him and discover what He has planned for us from the beginning. He is the One who created us and gave us talents and gifts. He knows what will fulfill us and give us a life of purpose and destiny. It is only when we surrender to Him that we can even discover these things.
I hope you will surrender your life to Him and discover the vastness of His love. He loves you. What do you have to lose? What could be more important that finding your life, a new life? It will be a life filled with adventure and wonderment. Discover what you have missed. Ask Him to make Himself known to you and to help you each step of the way. You will never be the same again.
