What are the judgments of God? How do they affect us? Why does He do it and what does it mean to us? As I pondered on this subject, Hurricane Gustav had just crossed Cuba and was a Category 4 hurricane. What was going to happen and was this going to be judgment time? Judgments of God!

I am intrigued with and like to watch and keep up with the information on hurricanes. These storm systems defy man’s ability to control them. There is a scripture that says in Deuteronomy 30:19 “This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the LORD is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.”

The Lord loves us so much. He is like a parent with children. I know I’ve talked about this before, but it is good to touch on it again. Parents don’t make rules for their children because they hate them, but rather because they love them and want them to be safe. This is the way it is with Father. The judgments of God happen because people ignore these safeguards and then endure the consequences. The easiest one to relate to is gravity. If you go against it and fail, the result is the judgment of the rule. There is a consequence.

We live in a society that doesn’t like consequences. Our leaders lie to us every day. We pass more and more laws to try and overcome the evil in our society yet never realizing that with each law that is passed more of our freedom gets ripped away. We want to be able to do what we please with no consequences for our actions. This is not possible. Our courts are not fair. Money, greed, power and pride have taken over our country. “Let’s tell the people what they want to hear. They simply can’t handle the truth.” Rubbish! We need to know the truth. Only when we know the truth can we respond with the right answers to the problems. We allow politicians to lie to us because it has become the norm. We don’t hold them to account. For goodness sake, these are the people who are running our country, are we not to hold them accountable for their actions? But here is where the problem lies, we don’t want to be held accountable either. We have become a people of pleasure rather than truth. As long as we are comfortable, please don’t rock the boat. It has come to pass that if we say something against popular belief, or political correctness, we become labeled as “terrorist”, “outcast”, or some other type of name. This is garbage and it is straight from the pit of hell. This is how Hitler rose to power. The checks and balances of the Constitution must be upheld if we are to live free. Each person in government must be honorable, if not, why do we allow them to be there. There are so many cover-ups. There is so much confusion from the press. The one entity that is supposed to be unbiased is totally biased and each headline story they promote is based on how much advertising money will be received. So how are we to know the real truth when we are bombarded by so many lies? Simply this, the Judgments of God!

It is the judgments of God that will expose the lies, hypocrisy, and cover-ups. I was reading an article about the levee system in New Orleans yesterday and all the corruption that is going on that is preventing it from being completed. Why? Peoples lives are at stake. There are people believing they are safe when they aren’t. This report has surfaced about all the fighting between organizations that are more interested in their own welfare than that of the people they are supposed to be protecting. I am so glad to see these things come to light. I believe that this article might not have even been written or published had it not been for the hurricane. Leaders are being exposed for their actions and this is the way it is supposed to be. I believe we will continue to see more of this in the days ahead. Father loves the helpless and He will protect them. This report goes on to say that the levee system will never totally protect New Orleans from harm. Contractors build on land below sea level, take their money and run while innocent people are put in harm’s way. Even if the government does nothing to bring these people to account, rest assured, the judgments of God will.

I love the judgments of God, because within them are His love, mercy, grace, and peace. Choose you this day who you will serve. You can’t serve both God and money, (greed, pride, and power). The Lord will protect His people. He always has and always will. He gives each of us a choice. When the righteous prosper, the city rejoices. When the righteous rise up, there is peace. All we have to do is be who we are meant to be. Walk with the Lord daily. We need to be the light, not just tell about it. People are tired of lip service. They want to see reality. They need to experience His love, not just hear about it or be told they are going to hell. Most of them already know that. The message of the gospel has been tainted. We need to proclaim the truth.

How did you meet the Lord? Was it out of fear? I hope not. I hope you met Him because you experienced His love. It is His love that makes all the difference. If you have been told different, you need to ask Him to know His love. It is His love that changes us. It was His love that sent His Son to die for us. He cares, period. Anything else is a lie. Here again, we all have a choice. It is ours alone to make. No one can make it for us. Choose carefully.
