Part 1 - Have you ever done one of those things that you weren’t going to do? Have you ever wondered why you did?
It is quite possible you were locked into a judgment or vow. What do you mean, you might ask?
I believe that our life, that is our soul, is like a garden. It can be beautiful and wonderful to look at and enjoy, or it can be full of thorns and briers and just plain ugly and full of death. So, what do others see when they look at your garden?
We reap what we sow into our garden. In the natural, if we plant a flower seed we get a flower plant. If we plant a thorn bush seed, we get a thorn bush. It’s the same with our mind. Our garden is a combination of what we choose to allow to be planted in our minds. Negative thoughts, hatred, bitterness, unforgiveness, vows and the likes can spoil and overrun our garden if we let it. Chances are we have some of these plants in our gardens.
Imagine a garden wall made of stone and steel that surrounds an area of ground. It is well guarded and protected. Now imagine that somewhere in the midst of that garden are delicate and beautiful flowering plants, but no one else can see them for all the overgrowth, vines and thorn bushes that cover every inch of the garden. Yet, we know, we really do, that there is some goodness there. It’s just under all of that other stuff. The question is, how do we get others to see the real goodness and love that is there? Are you feeling a tug in your heart? Have I touched something that makes you say, “Yes, I know that feeling?” Well, the good news is that you are not alone. Everyone has a least one of those areas in their garden. It might not be as large as some, but there are places we don’t want anyone to touch. It’s just not safe.
Now, the next question is, “Do we like being this way?” or “Do we want to change?” Now, if we want to stay this way, we might as well stop reading now. Everything, I share from this point on, is for those of us who want to change. We don’t like what we see and are making a determined effort to do what it takes to change.
First of all, we need to determine what the source of all these seeds are. Notice, there are good seeds and there are bad seeds. Jesus spoke a lot about good and bad seeds. There is a scripture that says something like this, “Every good and perfect gift comes from our Heavenly Father.” On the flip side of this is that every bad seed and gift must come from the enemy of our souls. Who is this enemy? He is the devil. Does this make sense?
Secondly, we are all given the right to make choices with our lives. Do you agree? Now if you make the choice to jump off of a 500 foot cliff onto the rocks below, what will happen to you? Death, right? Who do you think you might have been listening to, if you jumped off of the cliff? Do you think you might have had to choose between at least two choices? One voice or thought might have been, “Don’t jump, I love you and I care about you.” The other voice or thought might have been, “No one cares about you, go ahead and get it over. There will be no more pain.” Who will you listen too?
